July 13, 2020 Tried, true, and grilled to perfection. The lobster roll is a simple and succulent seafood dish that’s been enjoyed for nearly a century, and it’s one of the most popular menu items at Shooters Waterfront. But what are the origins of this savory sandwich? Although we serve it down here on Fort Lauderdale’s Intracoastal, the lobster roll can be traced back to New England and the Canadian Maritimes. Made up of lobster meat in a grilled hot-dog style bun, the sandwich’s filling usually includes lemon juice, salt, pepper, mayonnaise, and other tasty ingredients. In 1929, the first lobster roll on record was made at a restaurant called Perry’s in Milford, Connecticut. Its popularity spread throughout the region, eventually reaching other states in New England. Different interpretations of the dish were created. For example, a Maine lobster roll is usually served cold, while a Connecticut lobster roll is served warm with drawn butter. The most common sides served with a lobster roll include chips, fries, and dill pickles. If you’ve got a craving for fresh seafood and toasty bread, we recommend this summery shellfish plate the next time you dine with Shooters Waterfront!A Brief History of the Lobster Roll
